Newport Family Doctors is excited to be able to offer initial and renewal aviation medicals for both commercial and recreational pilots as well as air traffic controllers.
Dr Gavin Williams is a designated aviation medical examiner (DAME) and is available for the following services;
- Class 1, 2 and 3 Aviation Medical Certificates
- Referrals for private blood test results and eye examinations as needed

Preparing For Your Aviation Medical
About your appointment
All medicals will require a 30 minute assessment with our practice nurse, followed by 30 minutes with Dr Gavin Williams. Please allow up to 90 minutes in the practice for your assessment. Additional tests that may be required will be associated with additional private fees, including echocardiagrams (ECGs) and spirometry. When phoning the practice to book, you will need to provide your ARN number in order for reception to determine what additional tests you may require.
Fees
All medicals are non medicare rebateable. Reception will be able to provide you with an invoice to provide your employer if required, but all fees must be paid on day of the assessment. Please be aware these fees differ from those you will have to pay to CASA. The fees are as followed;
- Initial OR Renewal Aviation Medicals Class 1, 2, & 3 – $295
- ECG – $66
- Audiometry – $66
Pre - Assessment Checklist
The Civil Australian Safety Authority (CASA) require you to complete your prerequisites prior to being eligible for a medical assessment. The full checklist can be found here. Please ensure you have done the following;
- Set up and logged in to your individual myCASA account
- Confirmed your contact details
- Applied and paid for your medical certificate
- Received your reference number and application progress via email.
